As we age, cell turnover slows down, along with our body’s natural production of collagen. As a result of these factors, our skin loses its youthful plumpness and radiance. One way that Dr. Sean Maguire and the team at Physician’s Center for Beauty can rejuvenate aging, tired facial skin is with the Vampire Facial®, a treatment that combines micro needling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
Our patients are seeing incredible results with this minimally invasive procedure that requires little downtime and delivers long-lasting results. Micro needling, also referred to as dermal needling, with PRP has been shown to improve the appearance of lines, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, scars and overall dull, tired skin.
How the Vampire Facial Works
Micro needling uses a special pen with surgical steel needles applied directly to the skin to make controlled puncture wounds. The depth of the injuries depends on the specific problem being treated. These injuries stimulate the body’s wound healing response as well as natural production of collagen and elastin. The result is tighter, smoother and softer skin.
Our practice offers the Vampire Facial, which is a combination of micro or dermal needling in conjunction with PRP to enhance the results. PRP is an autologous substance containing growth factors, or molecules that promote tissue repair and cell production and differentiation. Traditionally, PRP has been used in orthopedic and reconstructive surgery to accelerate healing. But recent advances in the technology have led to the use of PRP in aesthetic skincare treatments to rejuvenate aging or blemished skin. We can apply PRP to the skin prior to and after dermal needling; the tiny punctures or channels created with the dermal needling pen allow the PRP to penetrate the skin.
Is the Vampire Facial Right for Me?
The Vampire Facial can noticeably improve the appearance of the following:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne and other scars
- Stretch marks
- Uneven skin tone or texture
- Enlarged pores
- Dull or sallow skin
- Hyperpigmentation (i.e., sun spots)
Dermal needling is very safe and effective, with very low risks. It is a great option for individuals that do not qualify for other skin care treatments such as laser skin rejuvenation.
What to Expect During Treatment
Total treatment time is approximately one hour. Prior to treatment, we will apply a topical numbing cream to the skin to reduce any discomfort. While the skin is being numbed, we will draw some of your blood and use our special FDA-cleared machine to generate the PRP. The dermal needling treatment itself takes about 30 minutes. Patients tell us it feels like sandpaper being moved over the skin, although it is not painful. After we are done with dermal needling, we will apply a special hydration gel.
Generally, we recommend a series of three treatments for the best results, although some patients see noticeable results after a single treatment.
The price of a single Vampire Facial is $750. We offer a package for $1,950 that includes three treatments, 3 GentleWaves and a post-procedure skin care kit.
