What Does the Procedure Entail?
Facial liposuction removes fat from the cheeks, jowls, under the chin, the jawline, or the neck. Dr. Maguire may recommend general anesthesia or local anesthetic for your procedure. He will make tiny incisions under your jaw or ears and then insert a hollow tube (cannula) to break apart the fat cells and suction them out of your body. Stitches are typically unnecessary, and the incisions are covered with a special dressing. Scarring from facial liposuction is hidden under the chin or behind the ears and fades over time.
What Is the Recovery Like?
Facial liposuction is a quick procedure with minimal downtime, but you will still have some swelling, bruising, and soreness for one or two weeks. Follow Dr. Maguire’s post-operative instructions to avoid complications and ensure optimal results. Most patients can return to work one or two days after chin liposuction, but neck liposuction may require up to two weeks away from work and activity limitations for up to eight weeks.
