What Is BioTE Hormone Replacement Therapy?

BioTE Hormone Replacement Therapy Louisville

Hormones are chemical messengers that travel through your bloodstream, helping your tissues and organs function properly. They affect many processes, such as metabolism, growth and development, mood and sexual function.

As we age, our hormone levels drop off, causing issues like decreased energy, difficulty sleeping and a decline in mental clarity. This typically happens in our 40s, 50s and 60s. A drop in hormone levels can also increase the risk of serious diseases such as osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy replaces the hormones that we lose over time, alleviating related physical and mental issues and helping promote overall health and wellness. The hormones can be administered in different ways; some people use topical products and others take hormones orally.

At Physician’s Center for Beauty, Dr. Sean Maguire and our team have seen consistently excellent results with BioTE Hormone Replacement Therapy. A tiny pellet is inserted under the skin two to four times per year to balance out hormone levels. There is no special maintenance or need to worry about taking hormones daily.

Health Benefits of BioTE

BioTE can help improve the following issues:

  • Decreased energy
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • The feeling that your temperature is always “off”
  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Decrease in intimacy
  • Decreased focus and memory

There are also health benefits to rebalancing hormones with BioTE. Testosterone and estrogen have been shown to increase bone mineral density, so women on BioTE hormone replacement reduce their risk of fractures and osteoporosis. These hormones can also help our brains by decreasing inflammation and increasing blood flow, which may lower the risk of dementia.

How Does Pellet Therapy Work?

If you suspect your hormones are unbalanced, Dr. Maguire’s staff will meet with you to discuss your symptoms. You will have some bloodwork done to get a clearer picture of your hormone levels and those labs will be reviewed with you.

To implant the BioTE pellet, a small incision is made to insert the pellet just under the skin. The pellet is about the size of a grain of rice.

You will return to the office six weeks later to reevaluate your symptoms and repeat your labs. Depending on what your lab work shows, you may need a small booster pellet to see the maximum benefits.

Typically, women return to our office every three to four months for retreatment, and men every four to five months.
