Plastic surgery is not a “one-size-fits-all” endeavor. Every patient has unique needs and treatment goals. Also, since plastic surgery is elective, it is harder to analyze the demographics. That being said, there are some procedures that are consistently popular among specific age groups. In this post, Dr. Sean Maguire of the Physician’s Center for Beauty breaks down the most popular procedures for patients in their 30s, 40s and 50s.
The 30s
A couple of things start to happen in our 30s. Our metabolism can slow down and our bodies store fat differently. Diet and exercise may no longer have the same effects as they used to. Liposuction can address this problem by surgically removing localized pockets of excess fat and improving the contour in that area. Liposuction is an excellent way to correct problem areas and restore a beautiful body shape.
In addition to traditional liposuction, Dr. Maguire offers two non-surgical alternatives to traditional liposuction: CoolSculpting Elite and SculpSure. Both are popular fat removal methods; the former freezes unwanted fat and the latter melts the fat away. Neither involve incisions, injections or anesthesia.
Women in their 30s and younger may also have a desire for smaller, larger or perkier breasts. Breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lift surgery are common procedures in this age group.
The 40s
Signs of facial aging tend to show up around the age of 40. Wrinkles and fine lines can be subtle, yet bothersome. The eyelids may also start to look puffy or baggy and the brow line can droop, giving the face a tired or sad appearance. In certain cases, non-surgical treatment with injectables or dermal fillers is able to minimize signs of aging and restore a youthful appearance to the face. If non-surgical treatments do not suffice, surgical procedures such as eyelid lift or brow lift can correct more significant problems with the eyelids, forehead and brow line.
Many women are finished having children by their 40s, and may have experienced a dramatic physical transformation after pregnancy and nursing. Mothers that are concerned with their image may opt for mommy makeover, a combination of breast and abdominal procedures to satisfy their aesthetic concerns and boost their self-esteem. This is a popular option for women in their mid to late 40s (and even beyond).
The 50s
During our 50s, facial aging has typically progressed and usually affects multiple areas of the face. Facelift is a popular choice among individuals with deep wrinkles of the face, displaced fat, sagging skin of the neck, jowls and loose skin along the chin and jawline. Facelift comprehensively addresses all of these concerns and turns the clock back about 10 years. Facelift can be combined with eyelid lift or forehead lift to rejuvenate the eye and forehead area.
