Skin Care Treatments to Counteract Sun Damage

Written by Dr. Sean Maguire on July 8, 2015

Have your youthful sunbathing days left their mark on your skin? Are you embarrassed by premature wrinkles, discoloration, sagging or an uneven skin tone? Schedule a sun damage consultation with Dr. Sean Maguire and our team at Physician’s Center for Beauty. We offer a variety of treatment options to counteract the noticeable effects of sun damage.

Chemical Peels

Peels are designed to slough off the outer layer of damaged skin and reveal radiant skin underneath. A chemical peel can minimize wrinkles and fine lines, reduce areas of hyperpigmentation and stimulate the body’s production of collagen for smoother, firmer skin. Peels vary in ingredients and intensity; your peel will be tailored to your individual skin type and imperfections.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing uses short pulses of high-intensity light to vaporize the outer layers of damaged skin. This improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other areas of sun damage. Fresh, healthy skin replaces the sun-damaged skin.

Photofacials with IPL

A photofacial with intense pulsed light (IPL) can improve the look of dark sun spots or age spots. Short pulses of high-intensity light break up the melanin in the pigmented spots, leaving a more even, beautiful skin tone.

Pharmaceutical Grade Skin Care Products

Product lines including Obagi®, SkinMedica®, Glytone® and Avene® are designed by plastic surgeons and dermatologists to treat and reverse the aging effects of sun exposure and to protect the skin from further damage. Physician-directed skin care can offer results superior to over-the-counter products.

Botox or Dysport

Botox and Dysport are cosmetic injectables that minimize dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles that have appeared from years of squinting into the sun or furrowing the brows. When injected, the purified botulinum toxin relaxes the facial muscles that contract to cause creases, and smoothes the overlying wrinkles. Effects last temporarily.

Fillers

Fillers smooth deeper lines, creases and facial folds. The product is injected beneath the skin to fill wrinkles and restore healthy volume and shape to the face. We offer a range of dermal fillers, including Juvederm, Perlane and Radiesse, and will recommend the filler best suited to your specific needs. Effects last temporarily.

Maintain the Results

Once you’ve achieved the results you desire, the fight isn’t over. Many of these treatments require ongoing maintenance. Dr. Maguire and our team can develop a personalized plan outlining how often to return for maintenance treatments. For example, Botox patients might need injections every three to six months to maintain the effects of treatment. Or, laser skin resurfacing patients might need an annual follow-up treatment.
