Are you thinking about having breast lift surgery? Many women are unhappy with sagging breasts caused by getting older, having children and losing or gaining weight. Have you done some research on breast lift surgery, but aren’t sure whether or not you should also have breast implants? Dr. Sean Maguire, a plastic surgeon with over 20 years of experience performing breast enhancement surgeries, explains why you may wish to have breast lift surgery alone, or in combination with breast augmentation surgery.
What a Breast Lift Will Accomplish
Breast lift surgery is used to reposition the breasts to a higher, more youthful and perky position on the chest. This is done through a procedure that trims excess, loose skin from the breasts, and repositions the nipple and areola (the dark-colored skin that surrounds the nipple) to a higher position on the breast mound. Women who are happy with the size of their natural breasts and just want them lifted are the perfect candidates for this procedure.
Ideal candidates for breast lift surgery alone:
- Want to lift breasts that sag as a result of aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight changes
- Have downward-pointing nipples
- Have nipples that sit below the breast fold
- Have one breast that is larger than the other
- Are happy with their breast size or may desire somewhat smaller breasts
When Implants May Be Needed
Do you want to lift your breasts while also increasing their fullness? If so, you will need breast lift surgery in combination with breast augmentation surgery. In particular, women whose breasts were once full but are now deflated and saggy due to pregnancy, breastfeeding and the aging process can regain both lift and fullness with this combination procedure.
Ideal candidates for breast lift surgery with augmentation (implants):
- Have sagging breasts with a deflated appearance
- Have downward-pointing nipples
- Have nipples that sit below the breast fold
- Are unhappy with breasts that are small and/or have lost their shape and volume
- Want to add volume, particularly in the upper pole of the breast
